Station B / Deception Island

Human occupation dating from 1911 when a the Norwegian whaling station "Ektor"
was established but that one closed in 1931. In 1944 a British base (Station
B) was established by the Royal Navy during the "operation Tabarin" using
3 abandoned buildings.
At the end of the war, the base was handed and became a scientific research
station.
Main activities carried out were meteorology and air support to the other
british stations in the Antarctic Peninsula. The station was occupied until
1969.
