The hut at Cape Reclus or Portal Point was built by Falkland Islands and Dependencies Survey in December 1956 and was occupied until 1957. The main scientific research carried out from the hut was topographic survey.
A group of of 3 men spent the winter 1957, they reconnoitred and laid in support of a party of 4 men who travelled down the Antarctic Peninsula that winter from the Hope Bay using dog sledges.
In 1996 Cape Reclus hut was removed and rebuilt at Falkland Islands museum. Today only foundations remain at Cape Reclus Antarctica.
