Russkaya was a Soviet antarctic station which was opened in 1980 by the
RAE programme on
Marie Byrd Land.
During the occupation, the average temperature was -20°C for the coldest
months and -2°C for the warmest months.
In the beegining of the 1990s the station was abandoned but
RAE institute is
planing to reopen periodically the station for the up coming summer campaigns.
This will bring great benefits because the stations is located in the Pacific
sector of Antarctica, which is poorly covered by scientific studies.
