The Bellingshausen Station was opened in February 1968 and operated by Soviet
Union, then became a Russian antarctic station with a staff of about 20
persons in winter season.
The station is used as a base for field investigations on King George Island
which is one island of South Shetland archipelago.
The aerometeorological, oceanological, glaciological, geophysical observations
were carried out there, as well as biological and medical investigations.
