The Marion Dufresne is a research vessel maintained by the IPEV and TAAF, and named in honour of the French explorer Marc-Joseph Marion du Fresne.

Designed as a multi-purpose research and resupply ship, she was launched in 1995. The Marion Dufresne is designed to withstand rough seas. She is equipped with a device which allows her to retrieve sediments on the seafloor down to 60 m deep, and a multi-beam sonar for cartography. She is also fitted with an operating theatre.

She supplies 4 times a year the French research stations Alfred Faure (Crozet Islands), Port aux Francais (Kerguelen Islands) and Martin de Vivies (Amsterdam Island).
